About the Department

History: Women’s College, Howrah, now known as Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah was established in 1947 and the Department of English was set up the following year in 1948. The Department  was permitted to run Honours Course in 1959.The Department has been the workplace for famous litterateurs like Jibanananda Das and Bani Basu.

 

Vision and Mission: The Department of English envisages to make the students responsible and empowered citizens. The study of literature is supposed to make the students aware of various aspects of human life and human struggle which in turn increases their emotional quotient and thus contributing to social life.

Future Plan:  The English Department aims to further hone the skills of the students so that their employable worth increases.
