ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

History

Since the 24^th Day of September, 1966 when the department of commerce had started its journey, a number of distinguished professors had endowed the

faculty and through their academic acumen, pursuit to knowledge, passion and caring for the students for imparting pertinent knowledge which is ably

upheld by their successors, the department of commerce had registered as the one of the front-runner in the institution so far as the University result and the

active participation of extra-curricular activities are concerned. In the Department of Commerce Both the UG and PG are taught. For UG, both the

Honours and General courses in Accountancy are taught. Students are admitted strictly on the basis of the merits i.e. based on the results of the 10+2

exams. The students are mostly coming from rural, semi-urban areas, with few from urban areas. The Department is fully equipped with its own Library

known as Seminar Library which is quite rich in collection of new as well as old books consisting of both Text and Reference categories. It has its own IT

lab. Apart from following the traditional class room lecture method, the faculty of commerce had also used a number of innovative teaching tools for

spreading the knowledge in order to acclimatize with rapid changing world of business education. The use of audio-visual aids like PPT presentations,

practical use of accounting software like Tally, use of internet for conceptualizing the process of e-filing, e-trading etc. are being used round the year to

make student aware of the changes and the requirements of the global economy. It had always taken initiative towards providing placement facilities for the

students for building up better career. In order to pursue it, the department with active support from Placement Cell of the college had organized a series of

Campus Interview and/or Job Fair for the students in every year for the outgoing batch. The success rate of university exam for Honours course is 100%

and for General course it is 95.93%. Current students’ strength of the department is 140 students in 1^st Semester Honours and 50 students in 1^st Semester

General Course.
