Established in 1947, Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah is one of the most renowned colleges of the state under the aegis of University of Calcutta. The founder Principal of the college Sri Bijoy Krishna Bhattacharya, a visionary, started the college with only a handful of girl students in the premises of Shibpur Bhabani Balika Vidyalaya and the college was then known as Howrah Girls’ College.
On the demise of the founder the college was renamed after its founder Principal Sri Bijoy Krishna Bhattacharya. With its humble beginning the college flourished through its journey of more than 70 years and at present boasts a basket of 27 departments which is perhaps the largest in terms of academic discipline in a college under University of Calcutta (C.U). The Department of B.Ed. has started its journey from 1965. There is no doubt that the Department of B.Ed., Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah has successfully enlightened generations of women to such a degree that they have emerged as triumphant empowered individuals both at home and in the world.
The achievements of our students speak for themselves. Many of our students have topped in University examinations; some have been awarded with the prestigious national awards (our notable alumnae). As holistic development is the aim of our college as well as of our department (Department of B.Ed.) throughout the year the learners are engaged in different activities to manifest the potentialities of the learners and lead them towards self-actualization. The students are also involved in different social activities through National Service Scheme befitting their social responsibilities for the development of good human beings. Thus, the Department of B.Ed., Bijoy Krishna Girls’ College, Howrah serves to develop the girls as balanced, worthy, resourceful, self-actualized human beings to enrich the family, society and the nation as a whole
