1. History of Department of Bengali:
Bijoy Krishna Girls' College, Howrah formerly known as Howrah Girls' College was established on 1st August 1947. The college named after the founder member the famous noble educationalist Late Bijoy Krishna Bhattacharya. This college is the largest Girl's College in the Country. It was Honourable founder Sri Bijoy Krishna Bhattacharya who arranged to get the affiliation for Bengali (Inter mediate level) under the University of Calcutta from the very inception of the College on 1st August 1947. Thereafter, got the affiliation for Bengali General Course (Undergraduate Level) from the University of Calcutta in the year 1949 and got the affiliation for Bengali Honours Course (Undergraduate Level) from the University of Calcutta in the year 1959.
It was in 2017, Bengali Department got the affiliation in Post Graduate Level from the University of Calcutta.
The UG Department is having or intake of 110 Number of students which is the highest of all Departments and PG has the intake of 30 students.
2. Vision and Mission:
Our mission is to create real interaction with the students in the classes. Students regularity and attendance and maintaining desired discipline to be mandatory.
Learning is a incessant process and satisfaction experience. Our Department with limited resources cannot change the things all on a sudden but if can undergo with move student-centric learning
3. Notable Alumni:
The remarkable successful ex-students are Dr. Swapna Ghoshal, the famous performer of Ravindra Sangeet and ex-professor of RBU, Kolkata, Smt. Haimabati Bandopadhyay, music artist and teacher in Heritage School, Howrah, Smt. Amrita Mukhopadhyay, music artist and school teacher, Smt. Anjana Mallick, music artist and teacher of Holi Child School, Kolkata and so many others.
